OK here is the truck I ended up getting. Good things come to those who wait. It is just what I wanted. Enough room to stow my stuff in the back and enough engine to tow a trailer without freaking out. It has a 4.8 liter engine with automatic, a trailer package as well. What a difference it is to drive this truck compared to the old Jeep. The old Jeep is after all a Jeep. It was a hard core ride once inside that car. Bumpy is the word. But a Jeep can crawl over everything. Towing is just not a Jeep’s bag. Driving this truck is like a luxury car compared to the Jeep. Just imagine driving my Jeep towing my trailer across […]
While camped at Moab, I was online looking for a truck for a tow vehicle. I saw a great 2006 Chevy Silverado 4 door for sale in Monticlair, CA which is in L. A. County. I called the sales guy, told him the story and he said great, call him when in town. Well I get out to CA early to get their truck at Metro Honda in Monticlair, CA. call the guy I was working with – Scott Monteilh. Made an appointment for the next morning. I get up there bright and early to test drive my new tow vehicle and meet this Scott. He takes me to a Toyota Tundra. I say what the hell is this! Where is the truck I want. […]
I left Moab yesterday and drove all the way to Lake Mead in Nevada. 500 miles. A great drive. The I-70 heading west was a bit of a white knuckle drive. Rain and snow flurries. Higher altitudes. Mileage was about 14 miles per gallon. Not to bad considering there was a head wind almost all the way. That head wind cost about 3 to 5 miles per gallon. I found a good used Chevy Silverado 1500 truck for sale in So. Ca. I will be leaving Lake Mead Monday morning to head out to So. Ca. The truck looks like a good deal. Enough engine with automatic transmission to tow a trailer without the struggle I have with the Jeep six cylinder engine. I will […]
This is Jeff the camp host at Ken’s Lake campground. It is forest land and a great place to camp just south of Moab, UT. Jeff is a very interesting guy. He has been host here for 10 years. A friendly fellow. He is a retired UPS driver. Now his home is a 32 foot Airstream Excella trailer. Very cool indeed. He tows it with a Ford F-150 diesel.
I got up early yesterday morning and drove out to this great area. Dead Horse Point State Park is a great place to go and hike and take photos. Fun place with a neat little snack shop. When people go out there they forget to bring food. You are out in the middle of nowhere so bring food or you can stop at the snack shop. When I got back to town I stopped at the Lost River Coffee Roasters store and had a cup O joe and free wifi. Then I had lunch at a new place called Cabo Fish Tacos. $ 5.00 for a fish taco that was not to good. What a joke. Click on image to see larger view.
Yesterday morning I woke up to a rather nice day. After having foul weather for a couple of days it is nice to see. I thought today is Arches day. I got to Arches about 7:45 AM. You want to get there early because the traffic gets very busy later on. I wanted to get out to the furthest area “Devils Garden” where Landscape Arch is located. I got there and it was wonderful to have the place almost to myself. Nice!! I drove around and checked out the campground. A great campground. Again it is full. You have to constantly check the website or call about reservations. It is the only way to get a campsite in the park. Bummer! Plus no cell phone […]
