Leaving Abiquiu, NM. June, 13, 2014 Well, it is time to leave this special place. Time to see what is on the next horizon. The plan is to head west towards Flagstaff, AZ. I do hope to find a nice forest service campground. Bonito campground at Sunset Crater National Monument is my goal. The straight through drive is 445 miles. We will see if I make it. The Santa Fe trip was a visit into Southwest History. Walking the old town section of Santa Fe was like time travel into the old west. There is far too much to see in one trip through history. I can see that this will take many trips back. Northern New Mexico gives one a feeling of mellowness. That is the feeling I have experienced while camped at Abiquiu Lake. Hitting the road to new sites and tastes for the mind as well as the tummy. It was time to leave Morefield Campground at Mesa Verde National Park. Next camp to hopefully make will be at Abiquiu, New Mexico. Cruising through Durango, Co. made note to check the town further on my next trip. Now Pagosa Springs is a very cool town at 7000 ft elevation. Surrounded by the San Juan National Forrest and Weminuche Wilderness Area. A river runs through town. Nice. I could spend a month here messing around. Great fishing and hot springs too. I will definitely do the hot springs. Click on image for larger view.
